At Visiture, we have always said it: the long-tail approach is best.  By focusing on the long tail keywords, you’re going to get customers that are far more serious about buying, and not just “kicking tires.”  So, we weren’t surprised when we saw this study from Hitwise about how the long tail queries have increased month-over-month by 3% (far more than fewer keyword searches).  Long-tail is any query that is five words or longer (usually caps around 8, but does include those odd 11-word queries).

Also, Google accounts for 65% of search volume as of last month.  This is about the same figure as last year, which means they’re holding strong to their majority.  I guess it helps to be an official transitive verb.
